Fayçal Baghriche

14/05/14

Join us at our partner venue, Iniva, for a conversation with artist Fayçal Baghriche and curator Yasmina Reggad.

This talk is in advance of the exhibition opening at The Mosaic Rooms curated by aria, Intervening Space:From The Intimate To The World. The exhibition features work by Fayçal Baghriche, as well as Amina Menia, Atef Berredjem, Hanan Benammar, Massinissa Selmani and Sadek Rahim. Fayçal Baghriche presents Half of What You See, a mixed media installation that takes the formula of Benjamn Franklin’s “Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear.” Baghriche will discuss this work within the wider context of the exhibtion with aria’s curator Yasmina Reggad.

The works  in the exhibition explore interstices in time and space. Using space as a frame for human experience, they reflect upon transitional places and intermediary zones. By inhabiting these in-betweens, the artists harness liminal space in their articulation of that which echoes between the the private and the public, the intimate and the immense.

Fayçal Baghriche grew up between two cultures, navigating an Arab culture in the private sphere and western culture in the public realm. Baghriche has a diploma in Fine Arts from La Villa Arson, Nice and a BA in Dramatic Arts from Sophia Antipolis, Nice and an MA in Multimedia Creation from the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. He has exhibited widely both in France and internationally.

Yasmina Reggad holds an MA in Middle Ages History from the Sorbonne University. She is an independent curator and writer based in London, and works between London, Paris and Algiers. She is presently Programme Curator at aria (artist residency in Algiers).
