YAYA12: Curator’s Talk

Yazan Khalili, curator of YAYA12 will discuss the works featured in the exhibition, and the experience of presenting the artists in multiple venues throughout Ramallah, and also in Gaza, last year; and this year at The Mosaic Rooms in London, with co-curator Reem Shilleh and jury member Nicola Gray.

Please note that Yazan Khalili and Reem Shilleh will be joining the discussion from Ramallah via Skype. Due to visa restrictions both were unable to travel to the UK.

The Young Artist of the Year Award is organised by the A.M. Qattan Foundation to support and promote young Palestinian artists. Initiated in 2000 under the auspices of the Foundation’s Culture and Arts Programme (CAP), it has been organised since then on a biennial basis.

Born in 1981, Yazan Khalili lives and works in Palestine. Khalili received a degree in architecture from Birzeit University in 2003 and in 2010 graduated with a Masters degree from the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths College, London. He was one of the founding members of Zan Design Studio (2005) and a finalist in the A. M. Qattan Foundation’s Young Artists Award (2006), as well as an artist-in-residence at the The Delfina Foundation in London (2008) and Production Coordinator for Sharjah Biennials 9 & 10.

Nicola Gray is an artist, writer, editor and curator based in England. Formarly Assistant Editor of the influential journal on international visual culture Third Text, she has been involved for many years in editing and producing publications on contemporary art.
