Hazem Harb

26/02/1025/03/10

Tuesday to Saturday, 11am – 6pm, FREE

Hazem Harb’s first UK solo show reveals the work of one of the most interesting and versatile young artists to have emerged from the brutalized Gaza Strip in recent years. In this selection dating from 2006 to 2009, Harb presents work executed in a number of different formats, ranging from large-scale painting to digital photography, video art and installation. The works develop several themes, including the motif of the checkpoint and the suffering it inflicts upon the Palestinian traveler.

The exhibition includes  (digital photography and video-art), Untitled (six mixed mediaworks on paper), Dance Escape (mixed media on canvas), composed offour “acts” which echo the Israeli war on Gaza in early 2009, Empty Spaces and Erosion Factors (digital photography), and a numberof extraordinarily ambitious large scale paintings.

Hazem Harb was born in 1980 in Gaza City, Palestine. A passion for experimentation and new ideas drove him to move to Europe in 2005, where he now lives. His work has recently been exhibited at the National Ethnographic and Pre-historical Museum Luigi Pigorini in Rome and in the Museo delle Scritture in Bassiano, as well as in Paris, London, Munich, the United States, South Africa, and South Korea.
