Kurdish Prospects in Turbulent Times

Charles Tripp, Nadim Shehadi, Gary Kent, Cengiz Gunes & David McDowall

24/10/13

The Mosaic Rooms presents a panel discussion on the issues facing the Kurds and the question of Kurdish nationalism. The discussions will be in particular light of the current political situations in Iraq, Syria and Turkey where the Kurds form large minority groups.

The panel will be comprised of regional experts, including Charles Tripp, Nadim Shehadi, Gary Kent, Cengiz Gunes and the talk will be chaired by David McDowall. There will be a Q&A session at the end.

We regret to announce that Patrick Cockburn and Gareth Stansfield will no longer be able to attend the talk, however we are delighted that Nadim Shehadi and Gary Kent and Cengiz Gunes will be joining the panel instead.

David McDowall wrote the acclaimed A Modern History of the Kurds.

Charles Tripp is a Professor of Politics with reference to the Middle East at SOAS, University of London, with an expertise on Iraq.

Nadim Shehadi is an associate fellow of Chatham House’s Middle East and North Africa programme with expertise on Syria, Lebanon and the Middle East Peace Process.

Gary Kent has worked at Parliament since 1987 in a variety of roles and is the Director of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Kurdistan Region in Iraq.

Cengiz Gunes is the author of The Kurdish National Movement in Turkey:From Protest to Resistance. His main research interests are in identity and nationalism, peace and conflict studies and the international relations of the Middle East.
